Agenda
Get ready to take on some of the major problems facing Los Angeles and all of Southern California. Traffic, environmental concerns and social services subject matter experts will join us to clarify the real issues facing our community while your task-at-hand will be to brainstorm and sketch potential solutions using the toolkit of information architecture.
This high-energy, one-day workshop is a great way to learn through doing. Those new to the field and seasoned professionals will work hand-in-hand to share, iterate and sketch inspiring solutions. Facilitators will guide each table and offer support and encouragement to teams. At the end of the day we will reconvene to highlight amazing ideas that make the world a better place using Information Architecture.
Chris Chandler and Lynn Boyden launch the day by talking about the value of IA and how we can make the world better through information architecture.
Helmi will present issues facing low income housing in Los Angeles and present some problems for workgroups to solve in the design session.
Hilary will focus on what information can tell us and how it can aide traffic-calming. She will talk about the importance of carshare, bikeshare, and web-based solutions then ask workgroups to sketch possible solutions for designing for the future and improving our traffic relief through options by encouraging people to change modes.
There are 300 streets that intersect the LA River's 51 mile corridor. Jennifer will pose questions to workgroups about how we can we quantify the benefits of making 300 street dead-ends more accessible and transforming them into a multi-benefit transit infrastructure that will have a positive impact for all of Los Angeles.
Frank discusses the difference between data and information - raw verses digested. How do we discover, communicate and analyze data to make decisions? How do we take data from print-based to an interface/app and how can we help people interact with the data to ask more questions and draw important conclusions?
Worksgroups will select a topic, choose a problem and sketch low fidelity conceptual designs.
Sarah will highlight inspirational concepts and designs related to Reframing Affordable Housing, Traffic and Environmental issues that were revealed during the design workshop.
